Grandma Lalama

My interest in all things beauty is genetic. I get it from my mom, who got it from my grandma. I don't think my grandma ever missed a night of Eb5 face cream, and it payed off, because her skin was flawless at the age of 84. This week the world lost a wonderfully beautiful woman, my grandmother, Maria Lalama.

I've always known this, but learned even more over the past week, how many lives my grandmother has touched. From her hospitality to her caring heart, she touched an unreal amount of people. Generation after generation of families have stories about how my grandmother and grandfather helped them and showed them hospitality when they arrived here from Italy.

Traveling to the US from Pacentro, Italy when she was a young girl wasn't an easy journey, but I think it's one of the many experiences that made my grandma who she was. I thank her for carrying on Italian traditions here, with our family, and it makes me so proud of my Italian heritage. Ever since I can remember, every Sunday was spent at my grandma's house, eating spaghetti and meatballs with my entire family. Sundays were fun days, always filled with laughing and catching up with everyone.

I am blessed to have a very close family, and even though we have just lost the person it revolved around, I promise to help carry on the Italian traditions...starting with staying close with my family, because they helped make me who I am today.

My grandmother was beautiful (inside and out), strong, giving and loving. She will be missed by so many, but we are all blessed to have had her in our lives for 84 years. Ciao grandma...I love you!

  2. I can empathize with your story. I too, am Italian and had a fabulous Grandmother who served as the center of my, and the rest of the family's lives! The Sunday "macaroni summits," as I call them were the site of many conversations about life and our heritage. I salute you, Angela, on this Memorial Weekend for picking up your Grandmother's apron to keep tradition in your family. She would be proud!

I bet her spaghetti and meatballs were fabulous! Hope she passed along the recipe.

  5. Oh, Angela, I'm so sorry to read this. It's great, though, that you had your grandmother with you for so much of your life, and that you were so close. You are very lucky to have had that, and I can tell you appreciate how special that is. Condolences to you and your family for your loss, but I hope you can feel blessed to have had such a gift in your life!

Will be thinking of you, and offering a virtual hug any time you need it. :)
