Gypsy Chic Hair by Bertrand

For a recent photo shoot, Jessica opted out of her Melrose Place character’s good girl image for a sexy, messy, yet sophisticated look that L.A. based stylist Bertrand (of Tracey Mattingly Agency) coined as “gypsy chic”. Ready to be a gypsy queen yourself? Read on for his tips on how to get the look.

Gypsy Chic How-To:

• I began by prepping her hair with David Babbai’s Bohemian Beach for Wildaid, to give the hair texture and the windblown-like piecey-ness and fly-aways.
• Next, I rolled the hair in a little bun on the bottom of her neck and let it dry. This gives the hair a bouncy, loose wave.
• Then, once the hair was dry, I unwrapped it and put some René Furterer Naturia Dry Shampoo in my hands and rubbed the roots with my palm in a circular movement to create a teasing effect. I repeated this all around her head, and then brushed out some pieces while leaving others more wild.

Leaving for Las Vegas tonight. Long weekend girls trip, so excited! I spent a good 3 hours total packing. I'm a horrible packer, but a girl needs to be prepared! In my suitcase arsenal of beauty goods I included:

• Holllywood Fashion Tape! I told my girlfriends ahead of time that I had them covered for the trip! Not just the tape, but Hollywood Squares to help remove deodorant stains, Hollywood Touch Ups to remove unwanted lint and fuzz from our clothing, and the Hollywood Compact Mirror with a light so I can touch up in the dark clubs.

• ProSilk's Blue Tourmaline Ceramic Flat Iron - Oh, how I love this iron. It heats up in less than 7 seconds, and gets up to 435 degrees...I like it hot! I've tested my fair share of flat irons since I have wavey, short hair that needs help. This iron not only straightens, but it helps with frizz, and makes hair shiny. It uses Nano Quicksilver Technology to help sterilize bacteria and keep hair healthy. It's lightweight and on the small size for a flat iron, so it was super easy to tuck away in the front pocket of my suitcase.

• All of my beauty goods are housed in the EcoTools Overnight Bag by Alicia Silverstone. Super cute, stylish and PRACTICAL make up bag. I'm a sucker for a cute makeup bag, but usually they are so small they only fit a days worth of makeup! This bag has 3 (one large, two smaller) plastic zipped pouches lining the inside to keep you organized and safe from spilling or leaking items. It's super slip and fit nicely right down the middle of my suitcase. I had enough room for makeup, hair products and shower items. Giveaway to come soon!

Take Care of Your Hair - Conditioning Treatments

Is the cold air taking a toll on your hair? Highlights/lowlights drying your hair out? I've recently become obsessed with deep hair conditioning treatments. Here are a few that I like:

Ojon Restorative Leave-in Treatments for Color

Hands down the best smelling hair product out there. It's hard to describe, it's very unique scent has an almond-esque scent. I use this on my wet hair before blow drying and adding straightening products. A little goes a long way, I use just a nickel-size amount and spread through my hair, and then run through my hair with a comb to help distribute. My hair looked a lot less dry after styling and straightening and it had a nice shine to it. Added bonus: the scent lasts until the end of the day.
The best price I found for this product is at Sephora.com and Amazon.com for $29.

H2pro Silk

I use this on the ends of my hair, and then comb through, before blow-drying. I wait a few minutes to let it soak in and then I blow dry. H2pro Silk provides a silkier finish to my hair. Infused with Jojoba Hydrolyzing Crystals, it also helps to hydrate as well as protect hair from heat. Protection from heat is important to me since I blow dry and flat iron my hair every day.

Belengenza

EnCore Leave-in Conditioner ($23) by Belengenza is another favorite. I can use it before blow-drying and it doesn't weigh down my hair or leave it greasy at all. I even use it with Belengenza RoMANce Deep Conditioning Treatment ($32) in the shower and my hair still has tons of body after styling.
