MAC Nail Transformations

MAC is releasing a collection of nail lacquers and transformative topcoats designed to give nails a stylish twist. The light peach beige of Skin, deep plum of Rebel and sheer nude of Quiet Time undergo a unique transformation when combined with one of six glowing topcoats.

I love the creativity of this line and being able to style your nail polish to fit your mood.

Available online now and in store July 3rd.

MAC Holiday Sets

Want to give the gift that keeps on giving? In my opinion, that's a MAC holiday gift set. I put these on my Christmas list every year. Each year, they put out a new line of limited edition holiday sets with a theme. This year the Stroke of Midnight sets are decked out in gold, white and black packages, and look like mini clutches. So classy!

Here are some swatches from the Stroke of Midnight Face palette in Cool:
Closed compact that looks like a clutch - so posh!
Packaging for kit
Close up of full face palette, including Iridescent powder in Sparkling Rose, 2 lipsticks in Sublime Pleasure and Romantically Inclined, 3 eye shadows in All Races, Scene and Magic Moor, and an eye pencil in Ebony
Full palette with mirror. Also note there is a black flap cover that goes over the lipsticks, so you don't get shadow in them.

Eye liner and shadow swatches, from left to right: Ebony eye pencil, All Races, Scene, Magic Moor

What's your idea of the perfect gift?

MAC Smoky Eye with Gilded Night

Girls night was never complete unless my girlfriend Kelly was there to do the makeup! Kelly is one of my best girlfriends dating back to middle school. Not only is she a great person and friend, but she's also a talented makeup artist! I was so excited to ask her to do a guest post...and even more excited that she said yes! Take it over, Kelly.....
MAC Gilded Night
I’m a MAC girl. I like to use a mix of products but primarily, you’ll find MAC dominating my makeup case. So, naturally, when Angela asked if I would sample MAC’s mineralize eye shadow in GILDED NIGHT, I jumped at the chance. Plus, what woman doesn’t like to be a girly girl and play with makeup?
Before & After
MAC’s mineralize shadows are two complimentary colors baked together in the same palette—the best of both worlds. GILDED NIGHT—is a sassy duo for a date night or your upcoming holiday party. It’s a sparkling sophisticated mix of black and gold and I love that combination. This summer, I wore an all-black dress and gold jewelry for my brother’s wedding. Hot to trot ladies.

The look is simple and will take you less than 10 minutes. I started by applying a primer to my eyelids. Next, I applied the gold tone in the mineralize palette using a tapered blending brush—if you don’t have good brushes ladies, invest. Applying makeup with a good brush can make all the difference. After applying the gold, I smoked out the corner of my eye with the charcoal color in the palette. If you’ve never done a smoky eye, there are lots of tutorials on YouTube that can help—the main idea is to start with a small amount of the color and blend, blend, blend, adding slowly more and more until you achieve the darkness that you want. Nobody wants to look like a clown!

After the shadow, I applied, MAC’s Graphblack Technakohl liner. I always put shadow over my liner as well to set it—the powder sets into the kohl making it last longer—especially for those of us with an oilier skin base. Finally, I applied mascara to complete the eyes.

Always do your eyes first before applying your foundation. You don’t want clumps of shadow dust getting stuck in your foundation. After applying my mineral foundation, I finished off the look with some color in my cheeks with MAC’s SWEET AS COCOA, and my favorite MAC gloss, GIRL’S DELIGHT. Now all I need is the date!

MAC Cosmetics Paint Pots

My new makeup go to product in the morning is MAC Cosmetic's Pro Longwear Paint Pot. I bought it more for the color, and not because the MAC rep told me it would stay on all day.

mac cosmetics paint pot
I was a skeptic at first. I've never had good luck with eye shadow staying on without a proper primer. Well, there's a first for everything! I've never had a shadow last this long. No primer needed. From 7am to 7pm, a full days work, this stayed on.

My go to eye make up for the past few weeks has been Paint Pot in Rubenesque, black liner, and mascara. Super easy for early mornings when I need to get to work quickly and for traveling. I've been using a shadow brush to apply Paint Pot to my lids. It goes on super smooth and even.
mac cosmetics paint pot
On my wishlist: Paint Pots in Let's Skate (pinkish pearl), Camel Coat (muted beige) and Painterly (nude beige). I love how versatile the nudes are. You can wear them alone during the day, and you can play them up with liner for night. You can also use these along with other shadows as a base shadow. These retail for $20 a pot. It's a little pricey, but you pay for the quality of product. I've been using mine for the past month, every day, and have barely made a dent in the pot. A little goes a long way! Purchase at maccosmetics.com or
shop.nordstrom.com.

Have you ever tried Paint Pots? If so, what did you think? What's your favorite MAC Cosmetic product? Please share!

MAC Prêt-à-Papier

Craft-paper couture – an inspired idea cut like a pattern and whipped up into a frisky little “Funny Face” frock. The Prêt-à-Papier collection was a Project Runway challenge of sorts, with paper as the source, the instigator of ideas, the beginning of something simply, basically beautiful. Lipstick, Lipglass, Eye Shadow, Paint Pot, Chromagraphic Pencil, Studio Fix Lash, Impeccable Brow Pencil, Sheertone and Mineralize Blushes, and Nail Lacquer in a seamless spectrum of parchment-to-vellum beiges, with an occasional, clever colour spill, coral among the most au courant.

Shattered, decimated, blinded by a fantastic, intergalactic lip light! Just when you thought Dazzleglass was the best of bright, along comes Superglass, with secret, snowflake-shaped helicone pearls sparkling in three different facets for triple the dazzle! Lips have gone big bang, explosively dimensional, a rare eclipse! Gloss feels slick and sleek on application with no draggy speed bumps, not a hint of grit. Extreme innovation that's a good reflection on MAC...and the seductress lucky enough to strike upon it.

Makeup Break - MACs Fall Collection

This season M·A·C celebrates the idea of the Artist in every shade and stripe…makeup as art form. M·A·C has selected three individuals who exemplify this idea through both the subjects they choose, and the wildly individual styles and colours used to convey them. Bold, heroic, big; giggly, playful, clever; dramatic, original, abstract: Fall ’09 as seen by Richard Phillips, Maira Kalman, and Marilyn Minter. Be inspired!

FALL ’09 AS SEEN BY RICHARD PHILLIPS, PAINTER

Using the expert skills of a photo-retoucher, Richard subjected his own painting to a M·A·C makeover with the new eye shadows, blushes and lipsticks. A collection of Eye Shadow quads, Lipsticks, Lipglass, and The Perfect Cheek Blush just leap off the canvas!

FALL ’09 AS SEEN BY MAIRA KALMAN, ILLUSTRATOR

Famous for her whimsical visual diaries, Maira Kalman performed a bit of magic with M·A·C's new Technakohl Eye Liners and Eye Shadows, instantly drafting a captivating look at a stranger.

FALL ’09 AS SEEN BY MARILYN MINTER, PHOTOGRAPHER

Minter’s erotic imagery zooms in on a succulently wet, red lip, a dappled, sequined eye, or a silverized stiletto splashing in the mud. Pigments in Push the Edge and Copper or Gold Glitter have the power to make anyone feel like they WILL be seen – and desired. That gift for sparkle is one reason Minter was a natural for the high-key glitter pigments in Make-Up

MAC Colour Craft

Every Artist must be daring if she wants to hone her Craft, and post-summer 2009 colour was conceived with that kind of creativity in mind.

A sensibility that surpasses expectations with inventive new Mineralize Eye Shadow pinwheel designs that combine new hues in modern, neo-geo ways; Lipglass gets a lift too, now with three shades swirled to create a one-of-a-kind marble finish delivered in a new, sleek vial. The small but seriously artful 109 and 226 Brushes are musts… add the newest colour sensations in complementary Lipstick, Mineralize Eye Shadow and Mineralize Blush, and any glamorous gallery will go gaga to give you your own one-woman show!
