Skin Break - Coping with Sunburn

Ann Thariani, President of Gilden Tree, offers the following tips for coping with a sunburn this summer...

Five Top Tips for Coping with Sunburn:

1. Get out of the sun as soon as possible once you realize you're sunburned. If you can't get indoors, get under shade. The longer you stay in the sun, the worse your burn will be, and you run the risk of sunstroke.

2. Get into cool, clean water, either in a shower or a bath, or lay down with wet towels on you. Heat literally radiates off Nourishing Foot Creamsunburned skin, and your body needs help to cool down fast.

3. Moisturize your skin with a high Aloe Vera content cream like Gilden Tree's Nourishing Foot Cream, or Hand, Nail & Cuticle Salve as soon as possible.

Gilden Tree's foot cream and salves combine Certified Organic Aloe Vera with Jojoba Oil and Shea Butter, which helps skin stay moist and comfortable. (Keep Nourishing Foot Cream sample packets in your first aid kit for emergencies.)

Aloe Vera helps reduce swelling and inflammation, but plain Aloe will dry and crack, so you have to keep reapplying.

4. Drink lots of water or a sports drink like Gatorade. Your body is in desperate need of water and dehydration is a real danger.

5. Take a pain reliever and anti-inflammatory like Ibuprofen to help with pain and swelling.

If you feel nauseated, dizzy, have trouble breathing, or have a temperature, you may be suffering heat stroke, which means your body can't regulate its temperature, and you should seek immediate medical care.

Taking quick action will help you feel better faster, and by moisturizing well, you may reduce the pain and peeling of sunburn. And next time, don't forget the sunscreen!

This Year's Top Beauty Icon

- Press Association

Cheryl Cole has been voted this year's top beauty icon.

The Girls Aloud singer clearly possesses the X Factor, beating Jennifer Aniston, Holly Willoughby, Angelina Jolie and Kate Winslet to top the poll by face mask company, Montagne Jeunesse.

"Cheryl Cole is the nation's sweetheart and it's not hard to see why - she's beautiful and stylish but girly and down to earth at the same time... with immaculate skin and gorgeous hair, it's no wonder she came top of the beauty icons," said Montagne Jeunesse's Kate Johnson.

Cheryl was also chosen as the best celebrity pampering partner by women, followed by Dawn French and Fern Britton, while men picked David Beckham as their favourite.

"David Beckham is one of the ultimate A-list celebs and it's no surprise guys would want him as their pampering partner - he led the trend in male grooming, openly using cosmetics and beauty products and famously wearing that skirt. He's a regular guy but in touch with grooming and looking after himself," Kate said.
