The Fresh Air Fund

The Summer of 2011 is approaching fast! The Fresh Air Fund is in need of loving host families. The Fresh Air Fund is a non-profit agency that has provided summer vacations to more than 1.7 million New York City children from low-income communities since 1877. Nearly 10,000 New York City children enjoy free Fresh Air Fund programs annually.

In 2010, The Fresh Air Fund's Volunteer Host Family program, called Friendly Town, gave close to 5,000 New York City boys and girls, ages six to 18, free summer experiences in the country and the suburbs. Volunteer host families shared their friendship and homes up to two weeks or more in 13 Northeastern states from Virginia to Maine and Canada.



Thanks to host families who open up their homes for a few weeks each summer, children growing up in New York City’s toughest neighborhoods have experienced the joys of Fresh Air experiences.

For the provocative pop star, all the world’s a stage. Why? Because she was born that way.

“I have never had plastic surgery, and there are many pop singers who have. I think that promoting insecurity in the form of plastic surgery is infinitely more harmful than an artistic expression related to body modification.”

“I am an artist, and I have the ability and the free will to choose the way the world will envision me.”

She says that once she had become a household name—after winning Grammys, after wrestling with Madonna on Saturday Night Live, after countless magazine covers—she felt pressured to move to the pop-culture mecca that is Los Angeles. “I had all these number-one records, and I had sold all these albums, and it was sort of this turning point: Am I going to try and embrace Hollywood and assimilate to that culture?” Suffice to say, it didn’t work out. “I put my toe in that water, and it was a Kegel-exercise vaginal reaction where I clenched and had to retract immediately,” she says in a very vivid metaphor. “I ran furiously back to New York, to my old apartment, and I hung out with my friends, and I went to the same bars.”

Giving Gelac a second try! Tina did my nails in Looking Glass on Saturday. I already have a 'break' in one of the nails that I'll have to try and file down. Gelac just seems so much thinner than Shellac. Looking Glass, although it's a pretty sheer color, didn't full cover my nails.

Zero Frizz Review

During my trip to Florida 2 weeks ago, the weather was on the brink of turning really sticky. The day I left there was such much humidity my skin felt damp just walking outside! I made sure to pack Zero Frizz Corrective Serum in my bag so I could put it to the ultimate test of Florida humidity.

I use Zero Frizz all the time here in Michigan, but it's also very dry here right now, so I couldn't put it's frizz taming capabilities to the test.

I used it every morning while in Florida and was super happy with the results. Not only did it keep the frizz at bay but it made my hair look really smooth after blow drying. I used it by itself on a few days, and then mixed with a moisturizing leave-in condition on another day. Both times my hair stayed frizz free.

Get a Bronzed Glow from a Spray Tan

Have you ever spray tanned? I know people now think of Snookie when I mention spray tanning, but its a safe way to get a bronzed glow, without putting yourself in harmful rays.

I've never tried a Mystique tanning booth, but heard they are just 'okay' in terms of even coverage. I've had the best luck when the tan is airbrushed by a professional.

For the local Michiganders that follow my blog, I recently visited Allison at Sunkiss'd Spray Tan to get bronzed for an upcoming trip. This was my second visit with her and loved the results. Allison uses Artesian & Norvelle tanning solutions. I think she may have mixed it to be a medium shade for me. Immediately after spray tanning I was really dark. Once I showered in the morning it was a very natural bronzed color. The tan lasted a solid 4 days, and then started to fade.
