Dermalogica Skin Hydrating Booster Review

It's now mid-April in Michigan, and it's been 70 and sunny the last few days, but just a week ago, it snowed! I'm sure everyone from the south are tired of hearing about this harsh winter, but trust me, it's taking a toll on everyone involved, both mentally and physically. When it's sunny out everyone seems to be in a great mood! But when it's cold, it's a downer! And it doesn't just have an effect on my mood. My poor, dry skin, has been suffering this winter too.

Normally I don't do much testing with skincare products. I have really sensitive skin and I usually don't like to rock the boat. But since we've had this extremely cold and dry weather, I've caved. I've been testing out several different moisturizers and treatments to help protect my skin against this weather.

One of the moisturizers I was able to test was Dermalogica Skin Hydrating Booster. I've seen great results from this product! I've been using it religiously under my moisturizer for about 3 weeks now and have been extremely happy with the results: softer skin, less redness in the morning, and no breakouts.

The consistency of this product is just like water, which is also the first ingredient. According to the site, it's suppose to not only help with redness but also with fine lines. It also contains hyaluronic acid, panthenol, glycolipids and algae extract. No artificial fragrances or colors are added.

The directions on the box suggest mixing this with your existing moisturizing, but I've been applying it directly to my skin, and then a layer of my moisturizer over it (sometimes). A little goes a long way, so I can see this 1 oz bottle lasting awhile.
It's hard to see because it looks like water!
A little goes a long way with this formula, and I can see this 1oz bottle lasting a long time. And after seeing really good results from this product, I definitely want to try out more Demalogica products. You can purchase Dermalogica from their site and also at Ulta Stores. This product retails for $56.

Have you tried Dermalogica products before? If so, which are your favorite?

  • Giveaway Break - Vaseline Rosy Lips and MarieBelle Chocolates

Who knew something so tiny could bring so much joy into my life…check out my latest obsession: Vaseline Lip Therapy Rosy Lips. Anyone who knows me (or has read my blog in the past) knows that I keep a tube of lip balm everywhere in my life. In my coat pocket, in my purse, in my laptop bag, in my suitcase, in my car, etc. I can’t go without lip balm for more than an hour.

My favorite type of moisturizing balm is petroleum based, so obviously Vaseline has made an appearance in my bags. I recently got a sample of the Rosy Lips mini jar and fell in love. The light rosy hue it leaves on lips is just gorgeous. And it’s just as moisturizing as regular Vaseline, which makes it a win-win. And the cute size also helps its appeal.

This mini jar retails for about $2 at drugstores, but you can also try to win for yourself below!

  • Lisa Hoffman Fragrance Jewelry

When looking for a new fragrance, I always go after one that transitions nicely from day to night. Since I sit close to teammates at work and I'm in and out of conference rooms, I don't want to wear anything that's super strong or overpowering.
I recently came across Lisa Hoffman's Fragrance Jewelry and thought: "this is genius." Stylish, wearable fragrance that isn't overbearing. It's the perfect amount of fragrance. I tried the Tuscan Fig scent and loved it's vanilla bean notes. The rose gold fragrance charm is so pretty too. Perfect accent to an outfit.
Other brilliant things about this product:
     - It's travel friendly! You don't have to add it to your quart size baggie through security and you don't have to worry about it breaking in your bag.
     - It's double duty - both stylish jewelry and fragrance.
     - It's refillable. Unlike perfume where you have to buy a new bottle once out, with Fragrance Jewelry, you just have to buy new fragrance beads.

Lisa Hoffman also has a new Black Collection. It's so sleek! And it will go with so many different outfits. I also like the wooden bead bracelet. Super cute for layering!

Have you tried Fragrance Jewelry before? If so, what do you think? What's your favorite piece in the collection?

  • LAQA & Co. Fat Lip Pencil Review

I love finding new makeup brands. It's like finding a hidden gem! I was recently introduced to LAQA & Co. by Gloss48. They are a New York based cosmetic company that sets the bar high for their products. They focus on convenience for their products, which I can definitely appreciate it!

I was able to try out their Fat Lip Pencils, which are glossy lip pencils in a handy jumbo pencil. You may cringe when thinking of a lip pencil, usually dry, and always seem to need sharpening, but these are different. Fat Lip Pencils are super glossy and no sharpener needed. They twist up when they get low.

I was able to try out Wolfman, which is a creamy soft pink, and Fairyblood, which is a shimmery peach. Wolfman is my new go-to gloss. I'm a pink girl, and I can wear this during the day and out at night. And no extra gloss needed, these are pretty shiny!

Fun fact about the packaging: LAQA & Co. uses young artists looking to get their work seen by lots of people to design their packaging. The artists also get a cut of the profit from every product purchased...so cool!

For 2 more days, Gloss48 is having a sale on a set of two LAQA & Co. Lil' Lips, which are two mini size Fat Lip Pencils. Normally $16, these are on sale for $12.

Julia Louis Dreyfus 2014 Golden Globes Look by Votre Vu

Celebrity makeup artist Karen Kawahara created the look for Julia Louis Dreyfus at the 2014 Golden Globes using Votre Vu products. The bright orangey-red color dress inspired her to focus the look on a stronger eye with a lighter lip.

“Votre Vu Attentive Crème du Jour was used to prep the skin while the Amour D’Ore Multi-Vitamin Oil was placed applied to her body before hair and nails to ensure that it had time to absorb into the skin. I also applied a little bit of the Luxee Yeux as well around the eye contour.

I applied the Love Me Deux Foundation in Cannes to the entire face and concealed the under eye with a mixture of the Lingerie Pour Les Yeux in Light and Medium.

I also used the Lingerie Pour Les Yeux in Light all over the lids and applied powder on top of it to ensure that the eyeshadows lasted all night. I like to apply eyeliner first to create the shape I want in the eye and then shadow on top of that. I used Le Joli Crayon in Charbon and pushed it in between the lashes, then started with a very thin line in the inner eye, gradually getting thicker towards the outside. I added a little wing on the corners to give the eyes a lift. To create a popping eye, I used Votre Vu’s Palette in Play in Copper. The lightest vanilla shadow was placed towards the inside of the eye and the lighter copper color was brushed over about ¾ of the outside lid.

I also, very lightly, lined the inside of the eye with a burgundy color. The darker copper color in the Palette in Play was also placed close to the bottom lashes underneath the eye. To finish off the eyes, I used Eiffel Power Mascara as well as some individual lashes.

Vu-On Rouge Color Accent in Bouquet Rose was used to give some color on the lip and cheeks. I applied all over the cheek using my finger. I wanted to create pale lip, so I used a lip brush to apply the color and went over with soft coral for a bit of sheen.

I mixed the Arch de Triumphe in Fair and Dark Brown to go over the brows since I didn’t want them to seem too dark.

Then I used the Beaute en Bronze Blush which was very sheer and then applied the Dior Blush in Amber on top for a bit more color.

Lastly, I set her makeup with Belle Poudre in Light.”

    MAC Holiday Sets

Want to give the gift that keeps on giving? In my opinion, that's a MAC holiday gift set. I put these on my Christmas list every year. Each year, they put out a new line of limited edition holiday sets with a theme. This year the Stroke of Midnight sets are decked out in gold, white and black packages, and look like mini clutches. So classy!

Here are some swatches from the Stroke of Midnight Face palette in Cool:
Closed compact that looks like a clutch - so posh!
    Packaging for kit
Close up of full face palette, including Iridescent powder in Sparkling Rose, 2 lipsticks in Sublime Pleasure and Romantically Inclined, 3 eye shadows in All Races, Scene and Magic Moor, and an eye pencil in Ebony
Full palette with mirror. Also note there is a black flap cover that goes over the lipsticks, so you don't get shadow in them.
Close up of lipsticks and eye shadows
Lipstick swatches, Sublime Pleasure on the left, Romantically inclined on the right
Eye liner and shadow swatches, from left to right: Ebony eye pencil, All Races, Scene, Magic Moor

    Ulta Holiday Gift Guide

I think it's obvious that I'm obsessed with beauty products. I feel like I'm an easy person to buy for. Beauty products, like nail polish and lipgloss sets, pedicure gift cards or ULTA gift cards are perfect gifts for me!

But not everyone is easy to buy for. I have lots of different people on my list this year, including dad and father in law, mom, friends and coworkers. I made a list of people who I need to buy for, and I just checked off several names with one trip to ULTA!

I spent about an hour in the store smelling the new fragrances, playing with the eyeshadow sets, swatching lip gloss on my hand and testing out under eye concealer (okay, this was for me, not for the people on my list!). There was seriously something for everyone on my list! If you're still looking for the perfect gift, look no further! Here are my top gift suggestions for the holiday....

For Moms or Mother in Laws...
    Clarisonic Mia 2
Talk about the gift that keeps on giving. I'm a firm believer in investing in skincare. You only have one skin! I use my Mia 2 a few times a week. It makes my skin so soft and it's the only time I feel a deep clean on my face. If someone on your list already has one, get them a replacement brush! They are suppose to be switched out every 3 months and it's easy to slack on replacing.

    Perfume
Ulta has an amazing free gift with fragrance purchase - a super comfy robe! Two gifts in one! Marc Jacobs' fragrance, Honey Eau de Parfum, has a sweet scent and is 2013 Allure Best of Beauty Award winner. Notes include pear, juicy mandarin, orange blossom and peach nectar.

For Dad, Father in Law, or brothers
    Cologne sets
Ulta carries all of the popular men fragrances. Dolce & Gabana, Acqua Di Gio (got this one for my dad), Burberry Brit (got this one for my father in law), and more. I smelled Jay Z's new fragrance, Gold, and loved it.

    For your sister or girlfriends
I grew up an only child, and always wanted siblings. After I married my hubby, one out of six kids, I got my wish! I love my siblings in laws. They are so much fun. Around the holiday time it's so much fun to shop for the girls!

    Lorac PRO Face

I love treating my sisters with beauty products. Ulta has a huge selection of makeup and bath and body sets. I love buying full sets like this Lorac PRO Face set. It has everything you need to create a full look, along with instructions on how to apply

    Philosophy Season of Sparkle
If your sisters or girlfriends like to be pampered, check out Philosophy's Season of Sparkle shower gel set is a great gift. The sweet scents are a shampoo, shower gel and bubble bath, all in one.
    Urban Decay Vice 2
This is an all star palette. 20 beautiful, edgy colors, that can be combined to create looks from day to night.
    Ulta Beauty Box
Ulta's Beauty Box is always a hit in my book. There are colors in this set for everyone. I love how they fold up into a pretty box that makes for great decor for a vanity or bathroom counter top.
    For your female coworkers
Ulta has a large selection of beauty products you can mix and match, 5 items for $5. These make great stocking stuffers or secret Santa gifts!

If you're still looking for someone on your list, check out Ulta's Holiday Gift Guide.  Or check out my Pinterest board where I have more ideas posted. Happy Holidays!
